5 Things That Hold YOU Back

5 Things That Hold YOU Back

At the beginning of the year this is a great time for us to think, reflect on the past and determine goals for the future.  But before you determine your bright future, you have to shake off and let loose of what you think Is holding you back from your accomplishments. When you set your goals you MUST address the things that need to be changed, in order for you to move forward. Below are a list of road blocks that I have dealt with.  I had to let go of these things if I wanted to achieve greatness.

  1. Thinking its too late: UUUUMMMM no! Its never too late. You need to go for what you want out of life. The more time you spend thinking that it is too late, your just wasting your time. Don’t worry ( but worry a little) about the time just get up and get it done. With the technology and resources that we have today, there is no reason why you shouldn’t own your own business, be a singer, or a writer.
  2.  Listening to the “Naysayer”…: Yeah you know, the negative Nancy, the haters, Debbie downers….those people. They are great for bringing you down, making you feel bad and diminishing your greatness. If you often get comments like..” You won’t be able to finish school in time”, Do you think you are really going to get XYZ done? RUN AWAY AND NEVER LOOK BACK! You can and will do whatever you want to. Don’t let their negative ways mislead you.  Do you boo! ( in the words of Shameless Maya).  neg

3. Having Big Eyes and a Big Head: Do you have the hottest heels out? The new Chanel bag? All of that is not necessary if your stuff is not together. For example, if you don’t have money in the bank, but keep shopping like you do…there is no point. You need to save for what is important. If your car note is late, but you have a coat with the price tag still on it, then you have a problem.  Get your priorities straight!  I know we all go through this, its life and I know things happen, but think about …do you want the new Ri Ri Lipstick or do you want to save up to get your Master’s degree.

everything

4. I’m Focused Man: Not necessarily. I mean don’t be so “ straight lined” focused. There is nothing wrong with doing the same thing, but we live in a world with many possibilities. Try something new! Learn a new language, eat different foods, go to an art show, take up a new hobby ( I could go on but you get the point). Broaden your horizons and create new opportunities! Your future will thank you, and I am sure it will pay off it ways unimaginable. Sidebar: I recently started taking sign language classes! I love it! It gives me something to other than run errands on a Saturday and I can add it to my resume.

5. Never Ever Ever Forget: My grandmother always told me to be thankful and never forget where I came from. ( She was a wise woman) Often times we get sidetracked and don’t think about how we started. ( insert Drake’s voice here.)  When you think about that first car( it was more than your money).  Think about that first job(who helped you through the tough times)?  Don’t get me wrong, you should b proud of your accomplishment, but at the same time don’t forget the sacrifices that have been made for you. Always help out others when you have the chance. Give a person a hug today, compliment them on their outfit, pay for the person’s toll behind or buy a homeless man some hot coco…they will appreciate the small things.

never

Shoot me an email, tweet or IG a pic of how you plan to move forward this year…remember, don’t let anything get in your way of greatness! Keep going, it’s only February let keep it going!

Be amazing lovies!

FASHION AND COLOR MEET INSPIRATION

When you are picking out your outfit, do you ever think about the colors and their meaning? The colors we choose to surround ourselves affect us more than we think. Color can enhance our emotions, actions and how we respond to others. Every time you wear a color, you are sending a symbolic meaning? Many people think colors are powerful. When you think about it colors on your clothes are extremely powerful. Think about it, when you wear a yellow shirt to an event, how does it make you feel? When you wear that little black dress to the party, do you have all eyes on you? Please read below to see what some of the meanings of colors are and what they represent. Happy reading!
Look down the list and pick out your favorite color and find out what that color says about you.

BLACK
This is the color that everyone wears to a job interview. Black represents authority, power and seriousness. When you are not in search for a job or attending a meeting, black is a great edgy color and again It one of the colors that you can wear with everything. Throw on that super cute leather jacket and rock out with your heels.
RED
Oh LA LA! Do you want to catch someone’s attention? Red will do that for you. This color is very empowering and brings attraction toward the person wearing it. In addition, red is also known as the color for passion and romance- which is perfect for a date.

red

BLUE
Feel cool with the color blue! Blue is a great color that can be calming and peaceful, similar to green. No stressing when you are wearing the color blue, you should feel relaxed. In addition, the color blue is said to spark your creativity To the contrary, studies show that blue can make you feel more “blue” or sad (subconsciously). I say wear it , when you feel like it. Even when you do have a project that needs to be completed…it can’t hurt right?!
PURPLE
Similar to red, purple Is an eye catching and stimulating color that represents luxury. In addition, purple is associated with spirituality and awareness. So if you are up to it, wear a purple blouse to a social event or even at the beach.

YELLOW
Having a bad day? Throw on a yellow scarf, dress or even a necklace will cheer you up. This bright funky color will put a little pep in your step. Also, the color yellow presents inspiration and intelligence, so wearing your favorite yellow piece during midterm/finals week may help you stay concentrated and come up with the answers. Leave a comment below, what color are the walls in your classroom?

yellow

ORANGE
Don’t you love the way they taste? No seriously, orange is a color that draws attention and great energy ( similar to red) but it is a little more calming. Wear this color to work, school or at a social event and it will put you ( and hopefully others) in a great mood.

GREEN

Green is a soothing and calming color. Think about it, when you talk a walk and become one with nature, how do you feel…a little relaxed right? Green is a color that has been found to help lower stress and be very refreshing.

green

PINK
When we think of pink, we think of “ girly” “Princess” and “castles”, but it is representative of happiness and romance. Pink can be another calming color (depending on the shade). Speaking of romance, pink is a great color for your nails or even a pop of color in your jewelry.
WHITE
Wearing white symbolizes light and reminds me of the good ol’ summer days. If you are looking forward to having a simple and peaceful day just throw on something white. Its great to wear when you want to have a pop of color or a statement piece. It also doesn’t hurt that white can probably go with everything you own!
We want you to have some fun too. Create your own outfit for your favorite color. Visit our Page: http://girlswholead.polyvore.com/ for details on each outfit. Use #GWLinspiration to show off your style!
I hope this gives you some motivation in picking your outfits for the day. This is just a new way to think about the color in your closet and what can help motivate you and get you through the day.

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

It’s SuperBowl Sunday
Oh yes it it. It is the day in February that we all have been waiting for.
Are you ready for some football?
Who do you think will win?

Well let me tell you who I know will win.
The team that is better won’t win.
The team that plays the BEST will win!

The team that believes in their heart that they will put their al into it
The team that knows in their mind before they step foot on the field that they are “in it to win it” and don’t have time to pay games
The team that is ready to kick some butt and will have each other back will win.

The same goes for you in life, what are you willing to do to win in life?
What obstacles are you willing to jump over to get the best that you deserve ?
When you wake up in the morning and face the world, you have to be willing to do what others are not willing to do!
You have to be willing to make sacrifices and choices to be a better you and live a life of fulfillment.

You have to go all in, learn what works and what does not work, learn from your mistakes so you won’t do the same thing over and over again! So when you make the best plays in life, have the support that is needed and learn to stay grounded you will get everything you deserve.

5 WINTER BEAUTY TIPS

5 WINTER BEAUTY TIPS

If you’re like me and you live on the east coast, you know this is another dreadful winter to prepare for. No worries though, we can still be chic and confident this winter by sprucing up on a few things. Here are some helpful beauty tips to help you cope during these winter months. If the seasons are changing , we need to go with the flow and make some of our own adjustments as well. Keep reading to find out what you can do to stay fabulous.

Perfect Shade

make up eye

1.As mentioned above, when the weather changes, we need to do the same.  Unless you live in an area were the weather is the same year round, your skin has probably change shades since the summer.  In this case, the same foundation you have will probably not match your skin tone for the winter. Go to your local make-up counter and purchase the right shade for the weather.

Moisture, Moisture, Moisture!

moist

2. Fighting these cold winds can leave your face/skin dry. A perfect way to stay winterized is to purchase new products with additional hydrating formulas (This will stop you from multiple applies of lotion or chap-stick etc. ) Personally, I used coconut oil, it has multiple purposes ( i.e hair, cooking, body/skin..the list can go on) and I treasure it dearly.

The Bolder the Better

bold lip

3. We see color all over the runway !  Try being bold with your lips or eye-makeup.  Adding a spice of color to your face ( or clothing) can help brighten your face an attitude. If you usually wear  a more subtle color, try a little shimmer. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new.

Hair We GO Again

blowing

4. Winter is one of the roughest time for me and my hair. During these months we have  a love hate relationship ( am I the only one?).  If you are like me and your have trouble with dry scalp, fly away hair strands and frizzy hair, it is time to gear up on the products.  Conditioning and extra moisture is key to battling dry/itchly scalps. Also, try hairstyle where you don’t have to touch your hair as often. Keep your hands out of your hair for most of the day to keep it protected and secure.

Pamper Yourself

pamper

5. This a tip that should be done for yourself year round.  Taking the essential time to pamper yourself and treat yourself like a queen can help with your overall presence. After a great massage, mani or a pedi, I have a little boost of energy. I am more easy going, and confident because I know I look and feel great.

Use these tips and tricks to help you create a flawless look for the winter. I know you have probably heard of these tips before but they are well worth repeating and will make a difference when put into action. Do you have any beauty tips for this winter? Leave a comment below.

Half Full Glass of Positivity

Is the glass half full?

Is the glass half empty?

Or is the glass twice as big as it needs to be?

I see the glass as half full!

The whole notion behind seeing the glass as half empty and half full depends on how you view the world—or more importantly “your world”.  If the way you see the world is either positive or negative, then it may be time to reevaluate or continue what you are doing and possibly reach back to help someone else.

As my life moves forward and new challenges, situations and circumstances come into play it is easy to focus on what seems to be wrong instead of taking a look at the whole picture.  Speaking to a few friends, I realized that I need to take a breather, step back and reevaluate my journey.  I need to stay focused on what I have done so far and move towards the direction in which I want to go.

Overtime I have realized that one of the main struggles that I face is the need for instant gratification and I am rarely pleased when things do not happen quickly and I fail to recognize what could have been learned during the process.

Here is my little secret; it is all about how you train yourself to see the world, or your surroundings. Positivity and optimism is the key! I know for a fact there will be times when the positive pill wont kick in and things just seem to go left instead of right. But when you are feeling down, just know it wont last! We all have emotions, so if  you feel a certain way then express it by  all means, however, don’t let it keep you down forever.

Keeping a positive attitude plays a big part in what you will accomplish and how you will move throughout life.  We are a force full of energy in which we exude and attract as well. Remember no one is perfect. Nothing will ever go right 100% of the time, we are all humans and we make mistakes. The good thing is that:

“What the mind expects, it finds. If you anticipate joy, good health, happiness, and accomplishment, then you will experience each one.” (from DailyOM, As Blessed As You Want to Be)

Even though  things may be rough right now, we all have the ability to be resilient and not let defeat take over.

So by taking a look at yourself right now…How do you see the glass? What changes can you make to improve your thinking? Who can you help motivate to see the glass the way you do?
